Sunday - July 8 - Holzem, Germany

We finally made to Germany after the insanity and inefficiency at the JFK airport. I do not know what was worse......the check in process at the counter or the boarding process at the gate. Too much for me to handle. I thought Lufhansa would be a lot more efficient than it was. At least it all worked out and we are now in Germany. The plane arrived in Frankfurt about 1/2 hour early and we had no problem finding the BahnHof station at the airport. We were taking the train to Bonn to meet Peter, who I had not seen in over 24 years!! The ride on the ICE (high speed) train was very smooth and we arrived in Bonn before 1 PM. Just as we expected, Peter was waiting for us at the train station and he took us on a leisurely ride through the Rhine Valley to his home in Holzem, just outside of Rheinbach (approximately 20 miles from Bonn). After chattting a bit with Peter and having a wonderful German beer we took a rather long hike through the area to see the famous Radio Telescope. Once we arrived back at Peter's home, his son Bastian had come to visit. Peter and Bastian prepared a nice barbecue dinner, and we all relaxed while Peter and I had a few more beers and a little schnaps..........great to be back in Germany again after 24 years.
